Part of me thinks that i should stick with battlefield and go with battlefield bad company 2 and see if there is a procon layer available and also if there are plugins for that.

The other part of me thinks in order to get exposure for the team and members from a completely different source is to go with either the new counter-strike, or cod2, or something along those lines. However i have never heard of anything procon like for those older games and im assuming that they have tons of cheaters by now in them.

I also have to ask my team to invest in another game if they dont have what i choose.

Questions:

Is there a procon setup and plugins for BBC2?

Are there similar setups for games like COD2, Counter-Strike, DOD source, and the like games?

If you had to choose a new server right now, what would you go with? I am really hesitant about HL even with the new DLC release i think an investment in a HL server could be costly and non productive in getting traffic and members.

Please dont say minecraft lmao

Thanks

There are plugins for bad company - from memory that's where I got the pictures for the manual.

Oh scrolling thought the plugin list - any plugs with BC2 icon should work

Thanks for the feed back, regarding my other choice it seems counter strike global offensive is very popular. Looked at the game tracker server list and its got 7+ pages (I stopped at 7) of full to next to full servers. But the down side is that I think all cheat stuff is handled by valve and by VAC and it is out of admins hands. I don't even know if there is a interface for it other than the server admin area itself.

I will let the team decide what they want to do.

Look at any BF server list and you see maybe 10-20 or less servers active and the rest all just sit empty. Where as older game styles without all the fluff like counter-strike and some of the others are alive and well with pages and pages of live full or almost full servers. Also COD2 is slow as well as Day Of Defeat Source, well its just always been that way.

I don't see a BF6 coming unless its a remake of something old. If they do BF5 as WW2'ish i think thats the life end of BF. I think players are tired of EA/DICE pushing things out the door and leaving them behind and "on to the next thing" business plan. We want what we have fixed and improved first.

What i am afraid of is that if i invest in BC2 then it will be no different than BF3 and the fact that i could get no traffic, i could get noone in the forum to even give me some input about what they wanted in a server, i got 0 replies, and thats why i am closing my BF3 server.

I am keeping my BF4 server because they at least gave me some feedback about what they wanted so i put 60hz and some other stuff on there and we will see.

I would like nothing better than to stick with BF and go with BC2 but my gut tells me i have to go where the players are if i am going to get traffic for my server and build my team over time. And the players are on CS. Well and role playing games too but i hate RPG games.

I have about 3000 hours in battlefield titles, but also have at least 1500 hours in minecraft, lol. It sucks you in like a thousand dollar whore if you let it. My biggest project was about 400,000 blocks.

I think Yahtzee put it best as to why people like it. If you have 5 minutes, it's a funny review.

Oh and i wanted to correct what i said before about CS servers being so full. I actually have the original game so i decided to go check for myself to see if there really were 31/32 (or such) players in these servers.

And well there were not, i tried 5 servers and everyone of them that showed almost full was either empty or only had just a couple of people in it, or a bunch of bots. So that zaps that plan, i dont know if they count bots in the servers or if the admins are using some kind of occupancy mod/hack, but that certainly woke me up to reality.

Also even with the small pings and servers that say USA on their description, they are all from like Guatemala or some other place with language i cant read. Plus the fact that you have to download maps automatically while the server loads, and i dont like downloading stuff that i cant scan or protect myself from.

So its a NO on CS (at least the old one)

For a new server startup use Ultimate map manager to feed your server with vanilla maps until around 40 players then switch to all dlc from 40 players to 64 then you will enjoy the fruits of a full 64 man server.

This is my 10 cents worth after running popular servers since bf2 you dont have to follow what im saying its just a personal oppinion to someone starting out in the BF server world.

Dont think about running BF Hardline as the playerbase on pc is very low (people already have their favourite servers) and bfbc2 has established servers too.

This is a guideline you may make a server popular on any game dont take my word for it.. but this is what i would be trying if we had no popular servers

Sadly i can only afford a 16 slot bf4 server as they are so expensive and at first i did try to do the squad dm maps as they are good for 16 slot server but that did not work. Maybe it was the map deal, i should stick with vanilla maps until it grows i guess.

Also i guess i should change my thinking a bit here, im under the impression that if you dont have a server for the games you play you cant grow, maybe i am wrong on that. Maybe the trick is the get members first who play the games we play and then get a server for those games as i can.

It is so much different to look at than BF3. You play BF3 and its nice and clean and focused, I can see players even if they are behind a rock if they move it catches my eye at times. But with BF4 its out of focus, fuzzy, way too much color, and impossible for me to see players. Plus a BF4 server is expensive.

I tried, I really tried this last weekend to sit on my BF4 server and play the maps, but I just hated it visually so much I had to leave time and time again.

Hardline is more like BF3 visually than BF4 is so I went with that because at least I can see players to shoot them and can play it.

Plus the hardline players on the forum seem to be looking for someone with a mission to make a great server, I get excited and they love the excitement I show. So we will see how this goes with hardline.

Plus I love that I can get the M1903 Springfield lol I loved that weapon in other older games...

  • Our picks

    • Game Server Hosting:

We're happy to announce that EZRCON will branch out into the game server provider scene. This is a big step for us so please having patience if something doesn't go right in this area. Now, what makes us different compared to other providers? Well, we're going with the idea of having a scaleable server hosting and providing more control in how you set up your server. For example, in Minecraft, you have the ability to control how many CPU cores you wish your server to have access to, how much RAM you want to use, how much disk space you want to use. This type of control can't be offered in a single service package so you're able to configure a custom package the way you want it.

You can see all the available games here. Currently, we have the following games available.

      Valheim (From $1.50 USD)

      Rust (From $3.20 USD)

      Minecraft (Basic) (From $4.00 USD)

Call of Duty 4X (From $7.00 USD)

      OpenTTD (From $4.00 USD)

      Squad (From $9.00 USD)

      Insurgency: Sandstorm (From $6.40 USD)

      Changes to US-East:

Starting in January 2022, we will be moving to a different provider that has better support, better infrastructure, and better connectivity. We've noticed that the connection/routes to this location are not ideal and it's been hard getting support to correct this. Our contract for our two servers ends in March/April respectively. If you currently have servers in this location you will be migrated over to the new provider. We'll have more details when the time comes closer to January. The new location for this change will be based out of Atlanta, GA. If you have any questions/concerns please open a ticket and we'll do our best to answer them.

    • Hello All,

I wanted to give an update to how EZRCON is doing. As of today we have 56 active customers using the services offered. I'm glad its doing so well and it hasn't been 1 year yet. To those that have services with EZRCON, I hope the service is doing well and if not please let us know so that we can improve it where possible. We've done quite a few changes behind the scenes to improve the performance hopefully.

We'll be launching a new location for hosting procon layers in either Los Angeles, USA or Chicago, IL. Still being decided on where the placement should be but these two locations are not set in stone yet. We would like to get feedback on where we should have a new location for hosting the Procon Layers, which you can do by replying to this topic. A poll will be created where people can vote on which location they would like to see.

We're also looking for some suggestions on what else you would like to see for hosting provider options. So please let us know your thoughts on this matter.

    • Added ability to disable the new API check for player country info

      Updated GeoIP database file

      Removed usage sending stats

      Added EZRCON ad banner

If you are upgrading then you may need to add these two lines to your existing installation in the file procon.cfg. To enable these options just change False to True.

      procon.private.options.UseGeoIpFileOnly False
      procon.private.options.BlockRssFeedNews False

    • I wanted I let you know that I am starting to build out the foundation for the hosting services that I talked about here. The pricing model I was originally going for wasn't going to be suitable for how I want to build it. So instead I decided to offer each service as it's own product instead of a package deal. In the future, hopefully, I will be able to do this and offer discounts to those that choose it.

Here is how the pricing is laid out for each service as well as information about each. This is as of 7/12/2020.

Single MySQL database (up to 30 GB) is $10 USD per month.

If you go over the 30 GB usage for the database then each additional gigabyte is charged at $0.10 USD each billing cycle. If you're under 30GB you don't need to worry about this.

Databases are replicated across 3 zones (regions) for redundancy. One (1) on the east coast of the USA, One (1) in Frankfurt, and One (1) in Singapore. Depending on the demand, this would grow to more regions.

Databases will also be backed up daily and retained for 7 days.

Procon Layer will be $2 USD per month.

Each layer will only allow one (1) game server connection. The reason behind this is for performance.

Each layer will also come with all available plugins installed by default. This is to help facilitate faster deployments and get you up and running quickly.

Each layer will automatically restart if Procon crashes.

Each layer will also automatically restart daily at midnight to make sure it stays in tip-top shape.

Custom plugins can be installed by submitting a support ticket.

Battlefield Admin Control Panel (BFACP) will be $5 USD per month

As I am still working on building version 3 of the software, I will be installing the last version I did. Once I complete version 3 it will automatically be upgraded for you.

All these services will be managed by me so you don't have to worry about the technical side of things to get up and going.

If you would like to see how much it would cost for the services, I made a calculator that you can use. It can be found here https://ezrcon.com/calculator.html

    • I have pushed out a new minor release which updates the geodata pull (flags in the playerlisting). This should be way more accurate now. As always, please let me know if any problems show up.
