Do you have a copy of the log from the plugin console? That is where this plugin writes all it's "diagnostic" info that might help show what is going on (if it is this plugin that was doing it).

 

All the output from this plugin will be prefixed with BalanceServerSeeders:

Also.... what version are you using? Here are the versions that I am currently using:

-BalanceServerSeeders - 2.0.0.2

-True Balancer BF3 - 0.1.6.0

 

 

Will be interesting to see if those moves are caused by this plugin, another plugin, or some combination of the two interacting...

 

If I had to guess before seeing the plugin-console log, it sounds like TrueBalancer's whitelist wasn't working right and the plugins were having a "fight" about where to put you. But that is just wild speculation at this point.

 

If you can duplicate the behavior, make sure that TrueBalancer's debug is turned on as well and grab the plugin-console logs. They should show which plugin(s) are moving players around.

Bug fix related to detection of when seeder is actively playing versus being idle. Bug would cause plugin to think seeder was idle when he/she was actively playing unless they scored more than their prior max score. Fixed so that score should reset for every player-list update, this *should* mean better detection of when a seeder is actively playing (or not).

The prior plugin versions worked properly under a lot of circumstances, but there were plenty of situations where it didn't exactly do what it should have as well.... (I still think that video posted is a failed whitelist for another plugin but I suppose anythign is possible).

The plugin does essentially the same thing that a TrueBalancer plugin might do, except that it ONLY looks at seeder accounts that you designate as such. If it sees that you have 4 seeder accounts online in your server (and they are all AFK) it will make sure that 2 of them are always on one team and 2 are on the other team. It simply prevents the situation where all 4 seeder-AFK accounts end up on the same team and if other people join your server they have nobody to play against.

 

It does *NOT* magically add players/seeders to your game server. It just balances the ones you (and friends) put there yourself.

If you have seeders in your server, then the point of this plugin is to balance them (ie: put equal numbers onto both teams). If its doing its job properly, then the seeders should be getting an equal win/loss ratio - half win, half lose. If they are losing heaps it's because their team is one (or more) players short - due to the seeder/s. And its probably understandable why they lost, as their team has less active players.

 

I understand your reasoning, but then its also going to inflate their win loss ratio. The other problem is, the server or plugins for that matter cant tell its close to the end unless its based on tickets (eg: tickets left

I came here specifically to post about moving seeders to the 'Defender' side. When I'm seeding, I move myself to 'defenders' when I'm 1st to join the server.

Hey kn.... I'm back and should have plenty of time to work on your suggestions this coming weekend. We have put in the cancel order for the BF3 server that my gaming group has had (our group has dwindled so it's basically just me keeping it alive...time to kill it :sad: ) But.... I should have the server available to me through this coming weekend and I've got two soldier-accts that I can use for testing in my empty server. So..... my writing this post is my attempt to promise to you that I'll get off my butt and add the functionality you describe. I like those ideas.

 

I'm sure with a bit of poking around other plugins and the documentation I can find the info I'll need, but.... if any other plugin developers are out there and want to give me type quick answer as to how you know which team is defenders and which is attackers that would save me a few minutes of searching time. Also the game mode detection would be nice. Again... I'll find this stuff out myself.... but if you wanna humor a lazy-ass plugin coder (thats me) I'm all ears and will focus more on just revising the plugin code/logic.

Not sure if it would help, but I know Panther's TrueBalancer plugin* does a lot of the functionality that you require and he's pretty helpful as I've chatted with him before and also done some beta testing for some releases of his plugin. I've made some changes and it seems to be working. Given that I do this stuff by more trial and error than divine intution, there is plenty of potential for bugs and unexpected behavior. So... I've left the old version up for re-install as well. Give it a shot and let me know what you find. I've managed to test it with seeder counts of 1 and 2 for our server.

 

Also... be aware that I'll be around most of this weekend to debug and fix. I'll still be around much of the weeknights next week, but after that I'll be travelign for essentially the next month. During that month I may be on with laptop/internet or I may not.... So.. point is.... the sooner we find and squash the bugs the better. :smile:

 

The logic goes something like this now...

 

For RUSH MODE:

 

- If (SeederCount_Attackers > SeederCount_Defenders) THEN move another seeder from attackers to defenders

- If (SeederCount_Defenders > (SeederCount_Attackers+1)) THEN move another seeder from defenders to attacker

 

For any mode that isn't RUSH mode:

- If (SeederCount_Team1> (SeederCount_Team2+1)) THEN move another seeder from team1 to team 2

- If (SeederCount_Team2 > SeederCount_Team1) THEN move another seeder from team 2 to team 1

 

The rush mode logic is (hopefully) as you suggested... it will make sure any odd# seeders are on the defender side.

 

The part that I did extra was to think about the situation where you have an odd number of seeders for conquest. Which team would you prefer to have the extra? I think it is probably best to make sure team1 has the extra.

 

Example situation:

conquest mode. 1 seeder online, Seeder is on team 2

First new/real player joins, server puts him on team 1 so that server things each team now has 1 player

Seconde new player joins, server sees 1 player on each team and puts the new guy on team 1. This means that team 1 will have both the "real" players and team 2 will have the seeder. By forcing the extra seeder to team 1, you would instead end up with the first real player going to team 2 and the 2nd real player going to team 1.

 

At least thats how I *think* it should work. :smile:

If it does my thinking would be that if there is an odd number of players in the server and an odd number of seeders, that the extra (or lone) seeder would be placed onto the team with higher tickets. If there are even players or even seeders, there would be no need to balance anything (as long as the seeders are balanced). This would cover all cases so that the next real player would go onto the team with less tickets so there should be more people to allow them to come back and win.

If you are running this plugin and *ANY* other plugin that will attempt to balance the teams, I really think you need to make sure to have your designated seeders in the whitelists of the other plugins that you are running. If you don't you very easily could get the kind of behavior this guy saw...

The guy never got back to me with more details, but.... if this plugin and another start "arguing" over where a player should be you could get crazy behavior like that. It *SHOULD* only happen to someone you've designated as a serverseeder so those people shouldn't get pissed off since they aren't just some random player.

 

So... my assumption is that if you have your seeders in TrueBalancer's (or other balancers) whitelist, then they should ignore those players and not include them in their balancing logic or move them. They *should* then do their normal balancing job of moving everyone else. I'm running True Balancer but I'll admit that I don't think I have his latest version. With my server going down in a few days and as much as I've been away it just wasn't a priority.

 

At any rate... let me know what you see.

I had one seeder in my server last night, but other clan members jumped on pretty quickly so I didn't get to test the seeding side of things. At least today most of my clan are at work / uni so I can get a closer look at the seeding side.

EDIT: I restarted procon and it played along nicely until the end of round where the only seeder was changed to the attacking team. The issue presented itself again where it came up with the "rush mode - detected ......" and procon once again locked up, layer clients went down, and the CPU stuck at 30%. So for now I have had to disable the plugin. It has something to do with moving a seeder from the attacking team to the defending team. There was 10 people in the server at this stage, 5 on each team. (I had disabled all the balancing plugins to ensure they weren't causing conflicts).

 

2. When it was working, I noticed that it kept the seeder on the defending team no matter what. While this is a good idea in principle, what happened was that there were 5 people on the server - 3 attackers & 2 defenders (1 defender being the seeder) so effectively it was 3 v 1. Is it possible to move the seeder to the team with the most people if there are an odd number of players? ORRRR when it detects a new player joining, move the seeder to the other team so that the new joiner is placed on the defending team - hope that makes sense :|

Had a while loop that was supposed to loop through the seeders looking for one that could be moved. Unforunately, all it was doing is endlessly looking at the first seeder in your list. If you happened to test it with the first seeder in the list as the one you were testing, it would appear to work. All I had to do to recreate your problem was to change the order I typed my designated seeders into the plugin settings and I got the endless loop problem

 

It has been fixed now. New version 2.0.1.1 has been uploaded to the first page (still leaving the older one just in case...)

 

Thanks for the catch. Now lets think about how to handle this desire for an extra seeder to be on defenders initially but sometimes on the attackers depending on player count.....

thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the plugin is behaving itself this time and is performing just like I'd hope/expect it to.

 

What you describe for the conquest server is what I intended. Here's an attempt at describing how this would work on my groups conquest server (which was cancelled effective today :sad:

 

NewGuy#1 joins my server, server puts him on Team 1

 

Flyswamper(seeder) joins the server, server puts him on Team 2

 

BalanceServerSeeder plugin forces Flyswamper over to Team 1.

 

TrueBalancer sees 2 people on team 1 and nobody on Team 2 and since Flyswamper is whitelisted, puts NewGuy#1 over to Team 2.

 

NewGuy#2 joins server, server puts him on Team 1 by default since teams were even before he joined.

 

Now, you have ended up with

Team1: Flyswamper and NewGuy#2

Team2: NewGuy#1

 

Now NewGuy#3 joins and server will put him on Team 2.

NewGuy#4 joins and server puts him on Team 1.

And you are off to the races.

 

 

 

If you let the seeder (Flyswamper) be on Team 2 then the following is what is likely to happen.

 

Starting point:

Team1: NewGuy#1

Team2: Flyswamper

 

Next player joins, server puts him on Team 1 by default and you have:

Team1: NewGuy#1 , NewGuy#2

Team2: Flyswamper

 

Not a good start, but 2 vs 0 isn't *THAT* awful. but....

 

Next player joins, server puts him on Team 2 by default and you have:

Team1: NewGuy#1, NewGuy#2

Team2: Flyswamper, NewGuy#3

 

Ok... 2 vs 1...not great but it's gotta happen... where it gets bad is next....

 

Next player joins, server puts him on Team 1 by default and you have

Team 1: NewGuy #1, NewGuy #2, NewGuy #4

Team2: Flyswamper, NewGuy#3

 

At this point, NewGuy #3 gets pissed that he didn't get help when NewGuy #4 joins and the fact that he is ganged up on 3 vs 1. So he leaves.... Then NewGuy #4 gets balanced to Team 2 and the process repeats itself until you find a newguy that is OK with 3 vs 1.

 

Forcing the seeder to Team 1 doesn't eliminate possiblity of this sort of thing but I think it reduces the odds of this happening quite a bit. It just can't forsee when people join off their buddies and don't goto the default Team #.

 

So...... I haven't really done anything more. I am still thinking that this is probably the most appropriate way to do things. With that said, I'm open to constructive suggestions as to improved logic (provided it's not too complicated to implement as I'm kind of fond of the KISS principle in most places)

      I wanted to give an update to how EZRCON is doing. As of today we have 56 active customers using the services offered. I'm glad its doing so well and it hasn't been 1 year yet. To those that have services with EZRCON, I hope the service is doing well and if not please let us know so that we can improve it where possible. We've done quite a few changes behind the scenes to improve the performance hopefully. 

      We'll be launching a new location for hosting procon layers in either Los Angeles, USA or Chicago, IL. Still being decided on where the placement should be but these two locations are not set in stone yet. We would like to get feedback on where we should have a new location for hosting the Procon Layers, which you can do by replying to this topic. A poll will be created where people can vote on which location they would like to see.

      We're also looking for some suggestions on what else you would like to see for hosting provider options. So please let us know your thoughts on this matter.

    • I wanted I let you know that I am starting to build out the foundation for the hosting services that I talked about here. The pricing model I was originally going for wasn't going to be suitable for how I want to build it. So instead I decided to offer each service as it's own product instead of a package deal. In the future, hopefully, I will be able to do this and offer discounts to those that choose it.

      Here is how the pricing is laid out for each service as well as information about each. This is as of 7/12/2020.

      Single MySQL database (up to 30 GB) is $10 USD per month.



      If you go over the 30 GB usage for the database then each additional gigabyte is charged at $0.10 USD each billing cycle. If you're under 30GB you don't need to worry about this.


      Databases are replicated across 3 zones (regions) for redundancy. One (1) on the east coast of the USA, One (1) in Frankfurt, and One (1) in Singapore. Depending on the demand, this would grow to more regions.


      Databases will also be backed up daily and retained for 7 days.




      Procon Layer will be $2 USD per month.


      Each layer will only allow one (1) game server connection. The reason behind this is for performance.


      Each layer will also come with all available plugins installed by default. This is to help facilitate faster deployments and get you up and running quickly.


      Each layer will automatically restart if Procon crashes. 


      Each layer will also automatically restart daily at midnight to make sure it stays in tip-top shape.


      Custom plugins can be installed by submitting a support ticket.




      Battlefield Admin Control Panel (BFACP) will be $5 USD per month


      As I am still working on building version 3 of the software, I will be installing the last version I did. Once I complete version 3 it will automatically be upgraded for you.





      All these services will be managed by me so you don't have to worry about the technical side of things to get up and going.
