please activate the plugin locally NOT on the layer server in procon and enable all debug options (plugin, tools->options->basics->logging)

you might also have to enable the local plugins tab under tools->options->advanced->layer tabs

you can find the logfiles in procon\Logs\IP_PORT\

Yup, I know where the log files are thanks m8, you've misread, ALL other plug-ins we run were out putting to logs, for whatever reason, this one was not. As I said, it's been un-installed for now. If, as and when I get round to it, I'll try it again.

However, the whole point of us having this plug-in, as with many others obviously, is that it runs on the layer where our Procon is hosted, so is working 24/7 with Procon.

Are you now saying that this plug-in will only work if installed onto an end-users local machine that is connected to the layer_____? Meaning whoever is running it locally has to also keep their machine on 24/7 to ensure the plug-in continues to work 24/7?

The whole idea of having Procon hosted remotely is to avoid this issue, so it is run centrally, and doesn't require a local machine to connect to run a plug-in surely?

I've not read of anyone else having to run this plug-in on a local machine, and they have had theirs running where their procon is hosted.

Now I cannot get it to function at all. Is there a way to deleted the settings somewhere for this?

btw both of my servers are having the same issue (same layer server, different ports, they share the same plugin files but not extensions).

Edit: So I talked with tim outside of procon and I fixed it by editing my server config file and removing all the lines for the voteban / deleting the .cs and the .dll file, restarting the layer, then shutting it off and adding the plugin again and starting it. Tested with tim on :P

But... as just an ordinary player that visits lots of servers that appear to be running your votekick/ban plugin, one thing that always bugs me in a busy server is that quite often a vote is progressing and I invariably fail to see which player is targeted for the votekick/ban. Eventually, if I wait long enough and watch EVERY message that comes out of the plugin it will let me know who it is. But.... my suggestion is to include the playername that is the subject of the vote in each/every message that the plugin sends to everyone via chat.

Basically, when it says "vote registered" it should instead say "vote registered for/against PlayerX"

when it says there are "5 votes yes and 2 votes for no" it should instead say "5 votes for yes and 2 votes for no for PlayerX"

Quite often many of us slow old guys aren't sure who the vote is for and often it can occur that people are issuing the votekick playerY command just as someone else is typing votekick playerY. Anyway....... I think I've rambled on long enough. I just think it would be useful if it *ALWAYS* included the playername in the messaging.

Take care

Even the plug-in logged, "Player xxxx has been BANNED by GUID!". However, the ban didn't take place and the guy continued to play for 2 more rounds after this. I'm running the latest 1.5.0 version.

Edit: Found the reason, if the ban reason someone puts in is too long, procon will silently drop the ban request. There's a limit to ban reason length and your plugin should check for that and truncate the reason to meet that length limit. That should fix the problem.

Edit#2: To be precise, it's the "Ban Reason Message" variable that gets computed in run time that must meet this length limit requirement and not just the ban reason as supplied by a player.

Nice catch!

I hope that the author (or someone knowledgeable) could find the time and fix it.

Good idea to have the plugin check for that and truncate the reason to meet that length limit.

Hope the plugin developer or another can add this fix.

As a result of this post, I checked mine and realized it could easily exceed the 80 characters if the player had a long name and if they inputed a long reason, so I cut it down to 51 characters, which leaves 29 extra characters to hopefully cover a long name or player reason.

But if someone enters something like this, it will drop the ban:

BAN by players' Vote Ban - %player% (Reason: %reason%) =

"BAN by players' Vote Ban - TrollingHackersUnite (Reason: TrollingHackersUnite is using an aimbot and intentionally team killing!)"

The above hits 129 characters easily, which will be dropped since it's 49 characters over the 80 limit.

Even this would cause the ban to be dropped at 97 characters:

"BAN by players' Vote Ban - TrollingHackersUnite (Reason: TrollingHackersUnite is using an aimbot)"

Is anyone else having a problem issuing commands?

Doesn't work:

!voteban

I have ensured that the command to vote ban is '!voteban' -- still nothing.

Suggestions?

For some plugins you don't need to add the ! or @ symbols, but in this one you need it in the string array for vote/kick/yes/no commands.

I came across an issue and vulnerability to abuse with Vote Ban yesterday.

I talked about this in the Cheat Detector thread as it related to both Cheat Detector and Vote Ban not banning an aimbotter running rampant.

Here's the part as it relates to Vote Ban:

first, let me thank you for your donation :-) really nice

as for voteban or votekick, i have lower percentages needed on my server (for example only 2 players are needed to start a voteban but about 35% are needed to pass that ban), but i guess that depends on a lot of things. i have lower percentages because i want votekick or voteban to be used to kick baserapers and such and i see some players just dont vote, so i lowered the percentages.

-grizzly

I thought by setting the Start Vote Ban Number to 10 with a Vote Ban Pass Percentage of 70% that this would mean 10 people need to vote (yes or no) and only 7 of those 10 people needed to vote yes to ban. But this interpretation is totally incorrect.

Regarding VoteBan settings, I set them in a manner I thought would avoid a group of friends or gang of idiots from coming into the server and banning everyone. But I see major flaws in my settings now, because I misunderstood the settings themselves.

With a Start Vote Ban Number set to 10, that actually means 10 different people need to type @voteban Name Reason and only once 10 different people type this @voteban command, then 70% of the total people voting during the set Vote Ban Duration (in minutes) time will have to vote yes.

Here's what happened:

Code:

Tonight, I encountered what all server owners fear with a hacker, and that is one who is blatantly open about his hacking while running rampant without an admin on to stop him. Neither Cheat Detector nor VoteBan stopped him.

Aimbotter entered the server at 23:09:11 and I banned him at 23:31:17, which was within a minute of receiving the @admin notification in ProCon because I happened to be working in ProCon at the time. Had I not been there to see this, Im confident this hacker would have emptied out a full 64-slot server (had 62/64 players at the time).

VoteBan didn't work with so many people starting votes and even more voting yes. My start Vote Ban number is 10, and my Vote Ban Pass Percentage is 70% which means 10 people are needed to start the vote, but once it starts, only 7 need to vote yes to ban him. (This understanding was wrong.)

In just 20 minutes on the server, he reached 114-5. Had he stayed the whole map at this rate, he would have hit 345-15 theoretically, assuming he wouldn't have cleared out the server before reaching such an absurd score.

I just wanted 7 people required to vote yes to be able to ban at any time, regardless of how many are voting or how long the duration lasts, with 10 minimum voting either way. But the settings available in VoteBan don't support this.

With this discussion, I see now I should change the Start Vote Ban Number to 1 or 2 people required to type out @voteban player reason.

There is confusion amongst the players as to what is required when the plugin incorrectly shows this:

admin.yell LeHozay has put in a @voteban request to initiate a Vote Ban on xxdeadlystrikexx! 9 more @yes or @no votes needed to start the vote! 45

This is what added to my own confusion on how it works. Technically, it should say:

9 more players need to execute @voteban PlayerName Reason in chat to start the vote!

1. How about an option in the settings to allow an absolute number of players needed to vote @yes after the first person executes the @voteban (this would make it consistent with the plugin's admin yell shown above)?

2. Without this new option, what should we set the pass percentage to prevent the buddies of a banned hacker coming in and banning the server?

With only 1 or 2 people required to type @voteban to start the vote, and at 35% as the Vote Ban Pass Percentage, all it would require for lets say a gang of five to start banning people is two of them to vote yes (if others in the server didn't vote No to stop it and we know most don't bother to vote). Even at 70% as the Vote Ban Pass Percentage, a gang of five would only need four votes to ban innocent people.

I'm posting my thoughts about VoteBan to see if you have any suggestions or tweaks you want to perform to VoteBan to prevent the scenario of a gang of troublemakers banning the server.

Thanks TimSad for your consideration and help.

I'm not sure where you found the following line unless someone edited it to say it... admin.yell LeHozay has put in a @voteban request to initiate a Vote Ban on xxdeadlystrikexx! 9 more @yes or @no votes needed to start the vote! 45

I guess you could changed it in the messages list to read like... say "%1% has put in a %2% request to initiate a Vote Ban on %3%! %4% more %2% requests needed!" all

As for a gang of people coming in to boot out whoever they want, if the current connected players is high and you have a fairly high Vote Ban Pass Percentage set, you shouldn't really ever have a problem. But if there are only a few players in game and then a gang of players join up then the best thing you could probably do right now is to use that Vote Ban Player Count Threshold and set it to something such as 8 to 10 that way Vote Ban is disabled until that many players are in the server.

Ah yes, I recall now that I did modify this because I was trying to make it easier for the players to know what to do.

But I had misunderstood how it worked, and by modifying the language, I made it worse instead of better.

Thanks for clarifying this and for your help.

Do you see anything wrong if I changed it to this:

yell "%1% has put in a %2% request to initiate a Vote Ban on %3%! %4% more players need to TYPE %2% to start the voting process!" all 45

Are you hosting your ProCon layer somewhere? If yes, you should upload your plugins to your layer server through FTP client like FileZilla...

  • Our picks

    • Game Server Hosting:

We're happy to announce that EZRCON will branch out into the game server provider scene. This is a big step for us so please having patience if something doesn't go right in this area. Now, what makes us different compared to other providers? Well, we're going with the idea of having a scaleable server hosting and providing more control in how you set up your server. For example, in Minecraft, you have the ability to control how many CPU cores you wish your server to have access to, how much RAM you want to use, how much disk space you want to use. This type of control can't be offered in a single service package so you're able to configure a custom package the way you want it.

You can see all the available games here. Currently, we have the following games available.

      Valheim (From $1.50 USD)

      Rust (From $3.20 USD)

      Minecraft (Basic) (From $4.00 USD)

Call of Duty 4X (From $7.00 USD)

      OpenTTD (From $4.00 USD)

      Squad (From $9.00 USD)

      Insurgency: Sandstorm (From $6.40 USD)

      Changes to US-East:

Starting in January 2022, we will be moving to a different provider that has better support, better infrastructure, and better connectivity. We've noticed that the connection/routes to this location are not ideal and it's been hard getting support to correct this. Our contract for our two servers ends in March/April respectively. If you currently have servers in this location you will be migrated over to the new provider. We'll have more details when the time comes closer to January. The new location for this change will be based out of Atlanta, GA. If you have any questions/concerns please open a ticket and we'll do our best to answer them.

    • Hello All,

I wanted to give an update to how EZRCON is doing. As of today we have 56 active customers using the services offered. I'm glad its doing so well and it hasn't been 1 year yet. To those that have services with EZRCON, I hope the service is doing well and if not please let us know so that we can improve it where possible. We've done quite a few changes behind the scenes to improve the performance hopefully.

We'll be launching a new location for hosting procon layers in either Los Angeles, USA or Chicago, IL. Still being decided on where the placement should be but these two locations are not set in stone yet. We would like to get feedback on where we should have a new location for hosting the Procon Layers, which you can do by replying to this topic. A poll will be created where people can vote on which location they would like to see.

We're also looking for some suggestions on what else you would like to see for hosting provider options. So please let us know your thoughts on this matter.

    • Added ability to disable the new API check for player country info

      Updated GeoIP database file

      Removed usage sending stats

      Added EZRCON ad banner

If you are upgrading then you may need to add these two lines to your existing installation in the file procon.cfg. To enable these options just change False to True.

      procon.private.options.UseGeoIpFileOnly False
      procon.private.options.BlockRssFeedNews False

    • I wanted I let you know that I am starting to build out the foundation for the hosting services that I talked about here. The pricing model I was originally going for wasn't going to be suitable for how I want to build it. So instead I decided to offer each service as it's own product instead of a package deal. In the future, hopefully, I will be able to do this and offer discounts to those that choose it.

Here is how the pricing is laid out for each service as well as information about each. This is as of 7/12/2020.

Single MySQL database (up to 30 GB) is $10 USD per month.

If you go over the 30 GB usage for the database then each additional gigabyte is charged at $0.10 USD each billing cycle. If you're under 30GB you don't need to worry about this.

Databases are replicated across 3 zones (regions) for redundancy. One (1) on the east coast of the USA, One (1) in Frankfurt, and One (1) in Singapore. Depending on the demand, this would grow to more regions.

Databases will also be backed up daily and retained for 7 days.

Procon Layer will be $2 USD per month.

Each layer will only allow one (1) game server connection. The reason behind this is for performance.

Each layer will also come with all available plugins installed by default. This is to help facilitate faster deployments and get you up and running quickly.

Each layer will automatically restart if Procon crashes.

Each layer will also automatically restart daily at midnight to make sure it stays in tip-top shape.

Custom plugins can be installed by submitting a support ticket.

Battlefield Admin Control Panel (BFACP) will be $5 USD per month

As I am still working on building version 3 of the software, I will be installing the last version I did. Once I complete version 3 it will automatically be upgraded for you.

All these services will be managed by me so you don't have to worry about the technical side of things to get up and going.

If you would like to see how much it would cost for the services, I made a calculator that you can use. It can be found here https://ezrcon.com/calculator.html

    • I have pushed out a new minor release which updates the geodata pull (flags in the playerlisting). This should be way more accurate now. As always, please let me know if any problems show up.
